Funding for: “Shiny Apps in Higher Education”

Published by edgar on

I received the news that my application “Shiny Apps in Higher Education” will be funded as part of the “QuiS” project (for a description, see German text below). The project aims to develop online apps (shiny apps), which help students learn different methods and central aspects of quantitative research. To illustrate, I have already programmed an app which shows the basic principles of a linear regression analysis. Within the app, students have access to several datasets and they can apply each step of a regression analysis for a variety of different research questions. It requires no specific software or programming skills. Such online tools can enrich lectures. For example, students can work on further examples from the app which will deepen the lecture’s content. In smaller courses, the apps link the learned content with practical steps of an own data analysis project. Regardless of the teaching context, students can access the app at any time, including a PDF summary of the content. Thus, such apps may help to enrich the methodological training of the student body.

Das Projekt “Shiny Apps in Higher Education” wird im Rahmen des Projektes Qualität in Studium und Lehre an der FAU („QuiS“) der FAU, Teilprojekt (TP 08) „ QuiS Digitalisierung in der Lehre“ unter dem Förderkennzeichen 01PL17017 im Förderprogramm Qualitätspakt Lehre (QPL) vom Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) gefördert.
